If your musical soul should seek to time travel to experience the vibrant future of Brazilian jazz, look no further than Vã Revelação, a brilliant, stylistically eclectic masterwork featuring the multi-generational pairing of the supple, surreal-voiced up and coming singer Bruna Black (2020 quarterfinalist in the Brazilian version of The Voice) and veteran American composer (and Grammy and Latin Grammy nominee) John Finbury.

Warm, intimate, lyrical and soothing on some tracks while sassy, sultry and offering some danceable fire in others, the nine track collection offers divine tastes of numerous subgenres of Brazlian music – bossas, sambas, Baião, Partido Alto, Forró and afoxé – which allow Black to share her effortless versatility and adaptability, complementing her pin-drop tenderness and emotional urgency with a wonderful sense of whimsy and playfulness.

While Finbury serves as a behind the scenes force as composer and co-producer with Emilio D. Miller, his pieces are brought to life by top Brazilian lyricists (including two by Black herself, “Romantico Calor” and “Chao de Nuvem”) and the powerhouse international ensemble of pianist Vitor Goncalves (who also adds a charming accordion solo to “Chao de Nuvem”), guitarist Chico Pinheiro, bass great John Patitucci, drummer Duduka Da Fonseca and percussionist Rogerio Boccato.

Since “The Voice,” Bruna Black has been nothing short of a sensation as part of the duo Avua, with legions of fans, a European tour and millions of views for their YouTube videos. Vã Revelação takes her artistry and promise to rarefied heights that will all at once relax, exhilarate and inspire listeners.
